The purpose of a thematic map is to show a particular pattern or theme about a specific geographic area. The image above is a thematic map of Montgomery county, Pennsylvania. The purpose of the map was to represent the concentration of African Americans (green) across Montgomery county. The demographic information came from the US Census Bureau (2000). The map above is also considered a chloropleth map. It contain additional features such as roads, interstates, and streams (blue).
