Mental maps are also called cognitive maps. Mental maps are based upon someones opinion or perspective of a place, concept, or idea. Mental maps do not have to be correct. The above image is a mental map of California from the Time Magazine (Issue November 2, 2009). The purpose of this mental map is to show why the state of California is important to the United States. This cover shows the audience that California has a great impact on technology. The state of California appears to be the inside of an electronic device.
