Box Plot

A box plot is also known as a whisker diagram. A box plot is a graphical summary of a set of data. Box plots are used mostly when comparing two or more variables. The diagram contains the median, average, and measures of dispersion. The diagram above is a side-by-side box plot. It compares the number of births in a hospital in Canada by days of the week (7 days). The tails show the minimum (bottom tail) and maximum (top tail) number of births and the mid line is the median.
